This week we are looking at insects in our lessons. Using this as a jumping off point we talked about what insects we find in our gardens. We also used a magnifying glass to show different scales and how things get bigger and smaller. Pupils drew large lady bugs in magnifying glasses and added their garden homes for the background.
This was a fun lesson, because we got to dance together. Everyone had to stand like a Keith Haring character and strike a pose. We listened to some musuc and spect sone time deciding on some great poses. We then used this as a starting point for a short drawing. This is a great introduction to figure drawing and proportion. Get pupils to start off by drawing a stick figure striking a pose. Next, draw around the stick figure, adding volume to the body. Using onomatopoeia's and pop art as a starting point, pupils collaged comic book shout outs in bright, bold colours. We looked at the work of Roy Lichtenstein and his influential pop art style.
Who doesn't love a giant hamburger? I know I do! Being inspired by Claes Oldenburgs soft giant sculptures was great fun. Pupils looked at his work and then created their own mini versions of the sculptures. Yum yum yum...
aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Who doesn't love a good scream?
Everyone can relate to Edvard Munch's painting "The Scream". With this in mind, we looked at different elements of the painting, for instance, the shape of the face, the skull and ghostie-ness. The colours that are unsettling. Then we had a very interesting discussion about how different colours make us feel certain emotions. To start the project, the pupils drew out a number of faces, each of which had to represent a different emotion. They then painted each portrait in a colour that they felt best represented the emotion. What an incredible day! Our international day featured food stalls, performances and cultural activities from all over the world. To decorate the classroom we created self-portraits wearing cultural dress and holding our countries flags. Everyone looks so cute!!! |
